Quick answer
A bora silai machine (also written bori or boori silai machine) is a portable bag closer that seals filled sacks with a single-thread chain stitch. For a few bags a day, a plug-in portable closer like the GK-9 series is enough. If you work at loading points or fields without a socket, a cordless model is easier. For jute mills and heavy daily runs, Gabbar and Newlong-style closers are the usual choice, and what keeps them running is the right needle, thread and plate.
What is a bora silai machine?
It is a handheld machine that you pull along the open mouth of a sack. A needle and a looper form a chain stitch, so there is no bobbin to refill. The same machine is called a bag closer, sack stitching machine or bora silne wala machine in different parts of India.
The chain stitch is why a sack can be opened again by pulling the thread end. You can read how it forms on Wikipedia’s chain stitch page.
Bora silai machine buying guide: which type do you need?

Plug-in portable closer. The Magneto GK-9 mini portable bag closer weighs about 3 kg and has an aluminium body and an electric motor. It runs about 2,500 to 3,000 stitches a minute, has a built-in thread cutter, and lets you adjust thread tension and presser pressure. It suits warehouses, packing units and shops that seal bags by hand.

Cordless closer. The cordless battery bag closer works without a fixed socket, so it fits loading points, farms and open packing areas. It makes the same single-thread chain stitch on PP woven sacks, jute and burlap bags, and paper sacks.
Gabbar and Newlong style closers. These are the machines you see in mills and godowns. Gabbar II uses two needles for a double seam. Our Gabbar bag closer guide explains which needle goes with which model.
Which one should you pick?
- A few dozen bags a day, mains power available: a portable plug-in closer.
- Bags sealed away from a socket: the cordless closer.
- Heavy jute or mill packing all day: a Gabbar or Newlong-style closer, with spare needles in stock.
Bora silai machine needle: how to match it

Needles are model-specific, so check your machine before you order. For Newlong NP-7 and NP-7A closers we stock a Groz-Beckert needle for Newlong NP-7 and NP-7A, and a heavy-duty bag closing needle for jute and sack work. GK-9 machines use standard GK-9 series needles. If you are unsure of the size, see our needle size chart or send us the old needle.
Bora silai machine thread

Use strong industrial polyester bag closing thread. Thin household thread snaps under the speed and the weight of a full sack. Our bora silai machine dhaga comes in a Galaxy variant built for heavy-duty, high-speed stitching.
Common problems and the part behind them
- Skipped or uneven stitches: usually a bent, blunt or wrong-size needle.
- Bag material tearing: often a chipped sui plate (needle plate). See the Gabbar sui plate.
- Bag slipping while feeding: a loose or worn paudi. See the Gabbar paudi.
